Summary
The Finisher Apprentice will be enrolled in a program in which he/she will train under capable and experienced journey workers in the tasks of concrete placement, finishing, curing, and cutting, based on the proper selection of equipment, materials and finishing sequence needed to deliver an acceptable product. This position will be exposed to the following duties and will participate in classroom and supplemental training.
Roles and Responsibilities
Acquires the skills to become a Finisher by learning/helping in the following areas:
- Sets finish grade during the pour of the slabs
- Placing, finishing curing, and cutting of concrete slabs
- Preforms concrete restoration and joint treatments
- Ensures floor finishes meet project requirements consistent with FF/FL terminology
Works with the following tools and equipment at the proper time of the place-finishing sequence
- Bull Floats, mops, and Highway Straight Edges
- Float blades, combo blades, and finish blades
- Hand tools for Floor finishing, edging, joint tooling
Participates in Training / Certifications:
- 144 classroom hours per year
- 2000 hours of on-the-job training per year
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. 2 years’ related experience and/or training preferred.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers
- Ability to calculate mathematical figures such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to read and use a tape measure and apply associated math skills
- Ability to use an iPad to access some program curriculum
- Ability to exert heavy physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 50 pounds
- Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl
- Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
