Summary
Baker is committed to building better structures and better lives – and we are looking for an experienced Director of Safety to help direct our efforts across the nation. The Director of Safety serves as the senior executive responsible for overseeing our established Incident and Injury Free (IIF) program at a national level. This role leads and manages meaningful initiatives that span teams, regions, and geographies to make a measurable difference in how we operate. This role also partners with regional safety and operations managers to develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health and safety policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations throughout Baker Concrete Construction Inc. (BCCI). In the process, s/he is part of a broader effort to leave a lasting and positive legacy in the communities where we live and work. This is a new position for BCCI., providing an entrepreneurially minded and forward-thinking candidate with the opportunity to help strengthen and grow one of the most important facets of our culture and operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Director of Safety will perform the following duties in a safe, productive, and effective manner:
- Develops, promotes, and practices continuous IIF improvement and learning across BCCI
- Ensures that all regional managers have a consistent and unified approach to promoting the IIF culture
- Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules
- Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting
- Serves as point person to bring compliance violations to closure
- Actively participates and supports Regional Field Safety Managers with all OSHA interactions, inspections, and investigations; oversees and/or conducts the investigation of job site incidents to identify the root cause and communicates that information to regional management
- Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops direct reports to ensure maximum return on investment
- Actively produces monthly reports that highlight progress, safety statistics, identifies major risk issues, training, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) and 20 years’ construction safety experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 3 years’ prior experience as Safety Director preferred
- Extensive knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
- OSHA 500
- Certification from a Professional Safety Organization preferred
