Meet Erin Hammer, Baker Construction Project Manager in Cincinnati, OH
Erin thrives on challenge. At Baker, she has the team and trust to rise to it. From her start as a co-op to her role as project manager, she’s been supported by mentors and teammates who actively root for her success. Just as important, she leads essential water infrastructure projects that improve communities and lives in meaningful ways. How did you come to work for Baker?
I started as a co-op with Dugan & Meyers while studying civil engineering at the University of Cincinnati. When I graduated in 2018, I joined the company full time as a project engineer. My goal at the time was to become a project manager, which I accomplished just a few years later, in April 2023. That was one of my proudest accomplishments, and I felt like everyone rallied around me to make it happen. In 2025, my team shifted to Baker Construction.
What does your day-to-day work involve?
I work with my team to provide overall management of my projects. That includes meeting with owners and our subcontractors, working through planning and scheduling with my superintendent, checking on our crew and making sure everything's running as it should, and even keeping an eye out for safety and making sure everybody's safe. Some days I spend a lot of the time in the office and I'm writing subcontracts, purchase orders, and test plans. Then there are days where I spend more time in the field to catch up with the team and project.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
My job is different every day, and I love it. But also, it’s just fun. It's so rewarding to see everything come together and at the very end say, “Hey, I was a part of that. My team built this. We did a great job.” I really enjoy the challenge and working together as a team. We are part of something that's bigger than us. We help create communities that are cleaner with better infrastructure.

The biggest thing about working here is that you’re not a number. We are a growing company, but we are still a very tight-knit company. I've always felt welcome. I've always felt like a part of the team. I've always felt like they support me in my decisions or things I’ve wanted to learn or try. They want everybody to be a winner. They want everybody to be successful. Here, you know you're valuable in any position.
How has Baker supported your professional growth?
Everyone in the company is so willing to teach you because everyone is here to grow. The support you get from the company is incredible. There are mentors to teach you whatever it is you need to learn. There is a true support system for those with the willingness to learn.
What’s next for you?
I think the sky's the limit. Baker Construction is helping me build and create a better life by allowing me to become whoever I want to be within the company. They are giving me the support I need through training, mentorship, and sponsorship. Having that support system and just feeling like everybody wants me to succeed is priceless. Everybody believes in me. They allow me to challenge myself, they challenge me, they provide the support I need. I enjoy the company I work for, and that helps me live a happy life.
