“I’ve never been limited in my opportunity with Baker.”
Meet Jason Fisher, Director of Operations in Cincinnati, OH
Jason discovered early on that water infrastructure is where his engineering mindset and love of construction came together. He’s built his career helping turn intricate plans into systems that improve communities close to home. Baker has fueled his drive to take on more responsibility, allowing him to grow quickly into leadership while staying closely connected to the work itself. Here, Jason has found a place where challenging projects, purpose, and opportunity align.
Why did you choose a career in construction?
I studied civil engineering at the University of Cincinnati (UC), and construction was the aspect of that field that most excited me. In construction, you lift an idea off the paper, bring it out of the models, and you make it a reality. And then you get to touch it and see it and drive by it for years and years.
How did you come to work for Baker?
During my second year at UC, I accepted a co-op position with Dugan & Meyers. I ended up doing three spring/summer double semesters of co-ops with Dugan & Meyers, and then I joined the company’s water treatment team full time in 2005. In 2025, our water infrastructure team transitioned to Baker Construction.
How has the company supported your professional growth?
I started as an entry-level project engineer. Within four years, I advanced to project manager. I spent five or so years in that role, and then I advanced to a project executive role. Today, I’m a director of operations for Baker’s water infrastructure team in the Ohio/Kentucky region. Throughout this journey, the company has always provided me the resources, mentorship, and guidance I needed to take the next step. I have never felt limited in my opportunities.
What do you enjoy about water infrastructure work?
I think water infrastructure, which includes projects like treatment plants, and pump stations, is an interesting and important niche sector. It’s a little more exciting for those who enjoy engineering and enjoy overcoming unique challenges as not only do we build the facility, but we get to see it come alive and serve its function during startup and commissioning. I’m motivated by the types of projects we do and how they impact the communities where we work.
Why should students consider an internship with Baker Construction?
We have an established program that helps co-ops and interns learn about the industry and themselves. They are given every opportunity to take on responsibility and go as far as they want. Our program is a bit more well-rounded; it’s not one-size-fits-all. Because of that, students see a lot of success in our program.
